Power systems - modeling and graphic design of electrical installations on ships

Water transport is a very intensively developing industry, and the direction of technological progress is largely subordinated to growing ecological requirements. Increasing pressure to ensure energy efficiency and high requirements for reliability are today providing impulses for introducing new solutions in the area of electric drives, electrical energy storage systems and electrical energy distribution systems. Unfortunately, in many cases this is associated with a deterioration in the quality of power supply to key electrical energy receivers and the introduction of various types of disturbances, which increases the risk of failure and ship disaster. Thanks to us, it is possible to create an interactive model of the ship's power system and check it live

About us
We have specialised in the area of modelling ship power systems. For this purpose, we use software that allows us to build models of power systems at a simplified level, which are a very useful tool at the initial stages of design. We also create extensive and detailed models, thanks to which it is possible to perform a number of simulations of various system operating states. Our clients include shipyards, design offices operating in the marine and electrical industries, system integrators, manufacturers of electrical system components on ships. We cooperate with many companies in the marine and electrical industries, and our partners include NMG, Typhoon HIL, Schneider, DEIFF, American Bureau of Shipping, Polish Register of Shipping and Gdynia Maritime University. The Project implementation period has been extended to 30.09.2022.

What will you gain from the power system model?
  • optimization of the designed power system at the design stage and better selection of devices
  • acceleration of the device installation stage: thanks to their prior testing and parameterization before installation on units, the risk of damage to individual system components in real conditions is eliminated
  • omitting some tests: thanks to cooperation with classification societies, sea trials can be accelerated by omitting some tests based on simulation results
  • improved service: thanks to the ability to prepare equipment before the actual work on the unit begins
  • better maintenance planning thanks to maintaining a digital model and extending the life of devices
The virtual model of the power system allows for:
  • the ability to carry out virtual measurements of power system parameters with high reliability while still at the design stage
  • the ability to control the levels of distortions and voltage and frequency dips in dynamic states caused by the start-up of high-power receivers
The modeling and simulation environment is equipped with a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulator. It enables the connection of key control and monitoring systems (e.g. voltage and speed control systems) with the virtual model. This additionally increases the reliability of simulation results and allows for the selection of their settings before physical tests on a newly built unit.
